Bake Off in Year 5!

This week in Year 5, we explored the science of cooking. We learnt about irreversible changes and how many irreversible changes create a new material. We baked two batches of chocolate cakes, one with vinegar and one without.

As scientists, we planned a fair test and considered our variables. We used lots of mathematical skills, as we measured out all of the ingredients using weighing scales and measuring jugs with different scales. One group even weighed each cupcake to ensure that all of the cupcakes weighed the same amount. It was just like being in The Great British Bake Off tent! 

We compared the results to see how the vinegar affected the cakes and drew our own conclusions. I wonder what else we could bake at home to see how materials change...
