Becoming mathematicians

This week in Reception, we have been thinking more deeply about number and quantity.  We have been having fun exploring and finding out about the number 2.  We thought of things that we know contain 2, in particular linking it to our theme Marvellous Me - some suggestions from the children ranged from "we have two hands, two knees, two feet and even two nostrils!"  We then began to think about different ways of representing number.  We compared eye colour in Reception and represented our findings using a bar chart. We are also learning how to create tally charts and discovered we have more boys than girls and more blonde haired children than dark!  This has inspired children to become curious and create their own questions to investigate - it wasn't unusual this week to see some children roaming the classroom with a clipboard and paper/pencil, creating their own mark-making - well done, everyone.
