Creation and science: conflicting or complementary?

This half-term in our RE lessons, we have been discussing different interpretations of Genesis 1. We have considered why Genesis 1 was written and how it can be understood in different ways. We have learnt about scientific theories of how the world was created and have had thoughtful discussions about whether these theories complement or conflict with Genesis 1. Today, we were very fortunate to have a visitor in school who encouraged us to ask questions and consider different viewpoints and interpretations. Miss Cookson was very impressed by the thoughtful and interesting questions which were asked. The debate will continue next week...
