Figurative language, fractions and Phase

Year 6 began the week reading poetry and giving reasons that they liked a poem more than others. They compared two of the poems before generating ideas for a poem of their own. There have been some terrific ideas with different types of figurative language, for example, similes, metaphors and personification being trialled.

In Maths, children have been learning to add, subtract and solve problems involving mixed numbers and fractions with different denominators. They are becoming fluent finding the lowest common multiple to make the denominators the same and help solve the problem.

The children continued to investigate light in Science. They investigated how the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection were linked.

Phase delivered their second workshop of the year. They surprised the children with some details about the Christmas story. Christmas preparations featured more this week – children practised the songs and made the Christmas decorations for the church. They are really looking forward to sharing both.
