Forest School in Nursery

Today we started Forest School in Nursery!  Children were very excited to spend time exploring and investigating in the woods.  To introduce Forest School, we learned games such as ‘123 Where are you?’ and how to keep safe whilst playing and exploring.  Wonderful listening and joining in, well done!

During the session, children collected some natural materials from the forest floor to make a journey stick.    We found a variety of different leaves to decorate our sticks which gave us opportunity to learn how to identify the trees in the woods such as beech, oak, sycamore and holly.  Children created really individual and personal journey sticks and the results were quite beautiful!  This activity also encouraged the children to think about their natural environment and our impact on it.  We were careful to collect only from the forest floor or pick a minimal amount of leaves and flowers from the trees and plants.  After a little while, we stopped to have a rest and enjoy some snack together.  We are really looking forward to our next Forest School session – bring it on!
