Geographers of Year One unite!
To kickstart our Geography unit and inspired by our exploration of artefacts in History last term, Year one explored the meaning and purpose of maps using beebot directional knowledge, directional language and their knowledge of the Year one classroom. As a class, they directed the Human Bee bot to collect various artefacts at key locations within the classroom. They explored what happens when incorrect directions are given and how the whole body's five senses - including the brain! - are used to process mapping skills. These skills were then applied on a Jolly Journey around the outside of the school and the children collected artefacts on a 'journey spoon.' The spoons were the used to support the children in designing and drawing their own maps to explain where they went on their journey. Phew! Well done Year One for an excellent start to your Geography topic.
