Today in RE, Year 1 expanded upon their explorations of Advent by considering two enquiry questions: 1) how might Advent be explored by non-christians such as those in Syria where Ahmet, our hero from our class reader is from?  2) How do Christians in Germany celebrate Advent?  As part of the latter investigation, children learnt about German Advent wreathes and the symbols used within them.  Children then used collage to create their own versions, with a sign explaining some of the symbolism.  Children then  displayed their creations and voted for the favourites based on degree of thoughtfulness and links to the Christian teaching.
