Jam sandwiches and maths

In maths in Year 1 we have been learning about fractions. Today we were learning how to find a quarter of an object or a shape.

To make our learning really visual and memorable, we made jam sandwiches  and then worked out ways to cut them into quarters.

Some of us preferred triangles, some of us squares or rectangles. All of us enjoyed eating them. We even had to make a second round just to check how accurately we could cut 4 equal parts to make quarters. The adults in the class enjoyed eating the sandwiches and agreed that jam sandwiches are quite underrated!
