Learning about 2-D shapes

Year 1 have been learning about shape this week. They have been identifying, naming and sorting 3-D shapes and then recognizing and building 2-D shapes.

Today we were building 2-D shapes with straws and then naming the shape. We investigated how many straws we needed to build a triangle and how many to build a rectangle. We talked about the fact that a square is a special rectangle.

We also looked around our school to see which 2-D shapes we could find. We found many rectangles but only a few triangles and squares. What shapes can you find at home?
