No Outsiders - Celebrating Differences
This week, Year 4 explored the book Along Came a Different as part of our No Outsiders learning. The story helped us think about how differences should be celebrated, not divided.
After reading, the children were split into colour groups — red, yellow, and blue — and given a set of rules such as not talking to or sharing with people from the other colours. This led to some interesting discussions about how those rules made them feel and how unfair it would be to live in a world where we couldn’t mix with others.
Together, we reflected on the message of the story and talked about how, just because we are different, it doesn’t mean we can’t be friends, talk to one another, or work together. In fact, our differences are what make us special, unique, and stronger as a team.
To finish the lesson, each group created their own new set of inclusive rules that celebrated kindness, respect, and friendship for everyone — no matter what colour group they were in!
