Outdoor Learning

In honour of the jubilee, this term outdoor learning project is based around trees.

In year 5, we have been learning how  trees transport water though their xylem vessels and how each year a tree forms new vessels. We used this information to find out the age of the trees.

We used our measuring skills to find the circumference of the tree trunk at the widest point. Then we used our problem solving skills to work out the age.

"It was great fun. I never knew why the number of rings told you the age to the tree."

"I liked using my maths skills to find out something really interesting."

"The oldest tree we measured was approximately 64 years old. Wow"
