States of Matter in Year 4

As part of our new topic on Materials, Year 4 participated in a series of focused practical tasks involving exploring some misconceptions around states of matter...

For example, when you fill a balloon with water and freeze it, will it retain the shape of the balloon?    Why do some solids behave like liquids?   Is there gas in a window cleaner filled with liquid?  And if so, how is the gas created without an obvious source of energy?

These were just some of the questions generated by the children which will form the basis of our enquiry this term.
