Storytelling
We are very fortunate in Nursery to have Miss Farrant, who is a huge book lover! Storytime is a magical time for the children as they are transported to distant lands, discover new knowledge and become immersed in rich and varied vocabulary. Every single child loves Miss Farrant's storytimes and wait eagerly to listen.
These storytimes often act as a catalyst for independent book exploration. This week, we have introduced a new project called 'Helicopter Stories' where together as a class we create a performance circle and act out a story. Many of the children have been interacting with puppets from 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'The 3 Little Pigs', retelling the stories through acting. Some of the children have even begun putting their own twist on the stories - 'The 3 Smelly Children' featuring the Big Bad Elephant who wants to blow their houses down!
We find stories such a powerful means of allowing children to throw open their imaginations.
