The National Gallery Visit

On Thursday 7th November, Year 4 visited the National Gallery. The primary reason for our visit was to view the painting, - The Family of Darius Before Alexander. We had been learning about the story behind this painting during our history lesson and wanted to see it in the flesh. We saw so many things that we had not noticed on line. We didn't even notice that Alexander's horse had a staring role before we saw the real painting.

During our art lessons, we have been learning about how artists show ideas in portraits. We took a tour of some of the portraits on display at the National Gallery. We were particularly interested in the painting the Ambassadors by Hans Holbein. It had a little secret in the top left hand corner.
