Victorian Seaside
In History, we are comparing seaside holidays of the past and present to answer the question: How has the seaside changed since our grandparents’ day?
Today, we travelled back in time to the British seaside holidays of the Victorian period and enjoyed learning about what people used to do on holiday a long time ago. To fully experience what it might have been like, we dressed up in Victorian costumes. We enjoyed many different activities to help us learn about how seaside holidays in the past are different to the seaside holidays which we might enjoy now.
In the morning, we explored different activities related to seasides of the past, including making various souvenirs such as cork boats and shell trinket boxes, writing postcards and dressing up for a Victorian photograph. We especially enjoyed seeing how swimming costumes had changed over the ages and learning the story of the modern bathing costume.

In the afternoon, we were divided into two groups and took on different roles on the pier. Some children were holidaymakers visiting the attractions and sights of the pier, whilst some children led the stalls, including a café, a puppet show, fortune telling and traditional games. We really enjoyed running businesses on the pier and were very successful entrepreneurs!

We hope that you enjoying seeing our photographs of the day and what fun we had! Thank you so much to our parent volunteers for helping us during the day. Your help and support were greatly appreciated.
