Working with sunlight
Year 3 have been learning in English about a famous botanist and scientist named Anna Atkins, who was was born in 1799. She was particularly well known for her work producing images of seaweeds and flowers using chemicals and sunlight to produce cyanotypes.
Year 3 had a go at making cyanotypes themselves. We needed to find a time when the sun was bright and it wasn't raining in order to produce these images, so it was a little time-consuming. However, when we removed the chosen plant to reveal the image underneath, it seemed like magic had occurred and all the effort worth it. These are a few of our cyanotypes - we hope you like them.
