YEAR 6 PARLIAMENT DEBATE

In our PSHE lessons we have been learning about the Rule of Law and the way that Law and law enforcement works in our society.

In pairs we designed a new law that we would like to be passed to ensure a better society for children. We proposed our laws to each other - the year 6 parliament - and voted on the one we thought should be passed. The laws we proposed ranged from banning smoking for everyone, a 3-day weekend, a mental health and well-being day every week in school, ensuring that people pay for environmental damage to woods and forests and teaching children more about how to keep safe.

The level of debate was excellent and the children asked very challenging questions to each other. In the end there was actually a clear winner - that there should be annual checks on every home and establishment to ensure that all children are being kept safe in their own homes.  Congratulations to Jacob and Charlotte for proposing the winning law.
